Various Artists commissioned by Piggyback 2007 various formats Piggyback have commissioned six North East based artists to produce new performance works involving the camera. These works will form a mini-screening programme within a programme responding to the context of the Little Jewel Cinemaand the idea of the peepshow. Piggyback will work with each of the artists throughout the process, providing training and support.
Approaching the unique viewing experience of the cinema Carole Luby and Nathalie Levi interrogate ideas of watching and being watched, questioning social and psychological roles and voyeurism. Laura Navndrup Pedersen invites us to observe intimate portraits constructed with movement and sound while Peter McAdam’s vignettes focus on memories of childhood transformed through time. Andrew Ross uses presence and absence as tools to highlight the ambiguity of the everyday and Pete Hindle scrutinises the art world in a form of ‘financial peepshow’.
Piggyback are an informal artist-led group working in collaborative ways in the North East of England, offering opportunities and support to early career artists. Their aim is to encourage and promote engagement and activity within live art and the moving image, in the region and beyond. Increasing access to professional development tools, providing opportunities to make and show work and disseminating information in an approachable way.
