Alison Knowles, one of founder member of the Fluxus live art performance group, (1962) and Alan Bowman (artist and curator of Emily Harvey Foundation, Venice) will lead a performance marathon including sewing, cooking, film and creative chaos in and around the Little Jewel Cinema on Saturday 19 May.

Fluxus performances include Shore Line in which Alison will stitch garments together creating a line of clothes, which will stretch out onto High Bridge from 3pm. Alan Bowman will perform Zyklus River Water Performance especially adapted for Newcastle using river water from the Tyne, transferring water from bottle to bottle in a test of endurance, which only ends when the water is lost!

Alan and musicians Maybe Myrtle Tyrtle will create sound performances throughout the day. The performances will continue into the evening during the preview event for Little Jewel Cinema’s Sapphire Season screening all the films from the forthcoming season.

The evening is also part of The Late Shows, which sees museums, galleries and cultural venues across NewcastleGateshead opening their doors late on Saturday 19 May with special events for one night only.

Alison and Alan will work with artists and students over the weekend to create further Fluxus performances, which can be seen at the closing event at The Star & Shadow Cinema, on Monday 21 May with Fluxus films, performances, discussion and a social get-together.
