FLUXUS FILMS
Various Artists, Chosen by Alison Knowles and Alan Bowman
Fluxus Festival Wiesbaden 1962 5mins 30secs, DVD To accompany their A Flux-on United Front performance weekend Alison Knowles and Alan Bowman have chosen their favourite Fluxus inspired films to be screened at the Little Jewel Cinema.
This includes footage of vintage Fluxus performances The Big Book and The Book of Bean in its Reading and performances in Wiesbaden (1962) and at Waygood in Return to Sender (2004). It also contains an interview with Alison Knowles and coverage by CNN at a Fluxus performance in New York.
Fluxus: is by its nature indefinable but is generally considered to be an attitude which looks at what happens when different media intersect and get mixed up - Fluxus artists use found and everyday objects to create new combinations of objects, sounds, images, and texts and the performances created are be simple & fun. Early Fluxus members include Nam June Paik and Yoko Ono. The often playful style of Fluxus artists led to their being considered by some little more than a group of pranksters in their early years.
- Fluxus is an attitude.
- Fluxus creators like to see what happens when different media intersect.
- Fluxus uses found and everyday objects, sounds, images, and texts.
- Fluxus should be simple. The art is small, the texts are short, and the performances are brief.
- Fluxus should be fun. If it isn't fun, it isn't Fluxus.
