Tiny Shiny
by Ginny Reed Archival ink-jet print, 2005

Tiny Shiny by Ginny Reed is an exposure on colour sheet film, of glitter repeatedly thrown in front of pinhole camera, whilst illuminated by studio flash. Newcastle-based Reed’s exquisite drawings, films and performances have been widely exhibited across the UK and recent shows include Glasgow International and the National Review of Live Art.

Reed’s practice explores themes of the absurd, randomness and repetition within a given framework. The dissipation of materials/props and the dissolution of an event/moment are an integral focus in the work. Often, small particles and volatile materials are distributed, expanded, exploded or sucked away, highlighting the residues and remnants of actions.

Much of Reed's subject matter results from the imagining of scientific concepts as a layperson. This stems from her abiding interest in astronomy, cosmology and perception. And is shown in her manipulation and capture of light and reflective materials.

Ginny Reed is represented by Workplace Gallery.
