Ginny Reed's ‘Small Bang’, is part of a series of films that capture different elements of performance to camera from the direct to the subtle. Small particles and volatile materials are distributed, expanded, exploded or sucked away, the medium of film giving form to their ephemeral qualities.

Influences vary widely and in this piece they range from from cosmology to comedy. Due in part to her ambivalence as being seen as ‘The Performer’ Reed is gradually obscured by the ever expanding prop until the inevitable moment of dissolution. Elements of slapstick and the nature of waiting suffuse the work, you know what is going to happen, but not when.
